Coming to Islam!

A-Salamu Aleiykum! I converted to Islam almost 7 months ago and as an American it was a very difficult transformation for me. I started reading about Islam and becoming interested in the religion a little while after 9/11.

I knew some muslims that went to the same University as me, so it was easy for me to get access to Islamic reading materials and the Qur'an as well. After reading a lot of books and attending Friday prayer at the Masjid I said my Shahada.

Al-Humdulilah! It took me a while to get used to a lot of things in the religion. For example, wearing hijab took some time getting used to. I wore it for maybe a month or two after converting, and then stopped wearing it for a couple of weeks. I was afraid of what other people thought of me when I wore it, but Al-Hamdulilah I came back to wearing it and now I couldn't imagine myself without it.

Although there were a lot of obstacles to overcome in turning to Islam, I can say that they have been well worth it. Since converting I have married a wonderful man from Egypt who has helped me in so many ways in finding the straight way. He has been so supportive and takes time in teaching me about the Qur'an and Sunnah and has also been teaching me Arabic.

Since finding my way to Islam I have never been happier. I have also met so many wonderful girls in the community that have been so supportive. The women from the Masjid invite me to their homes often and I have had the pleasure of making lifetime friends!

In-Shaallah I will learn more about my religion and meet more wonderful people in the future! Asalamu-Aleiykum!!
